Umlilo Artwork is a commercial art enterprise that specializes in handmade ceramics and mosaic.
Mosaic is an art that is based on beauty, learning, discipline, and faith. It is believed to inspire the viewer into meditative reflection of the underlying laws governing the universe.
Umlilo Artwork has taken inspiration from this art form which originated in the 11th century in countries as far as Morocco, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Egypt, Israel and Iran (Persia), to name a few.
Through modernization, the art has moved from the cutting of tiles, to pre-shaping, using moulds. Each tile is cast individually into a mould, removed, cleaned and fired. The tiles are then glazed with the desired colours, cleaned and fired again. The process is extremely intricate and time consuming, yet renders all the elements of beauty, design and craftsmanship, this ancient art is famous for.
Umlilo Artwork specializes in decorating interior and exterior architecture; from water features, swimming pools, jacuzzi's, shower floors and walls, to staircase risers, columns and archways, floor and wall inlays, feature walls, kitchen splash backs, and decorative borders.
